Rugby Advertiser staff were given a helping hand towards their fundraising efforts for Cancer Research UK.

Reporters Alice Dyer, Lucie Green and sports editor Zoe Ashton took part in Rugby's first ever Race for Life at Whitehall Recreation Ground, on July 31.

Oxygen supported the 5km event by providing vests for the girls to wear.

Lucie ran in memory of her dad Richard, who died from cancer aged 58, and her close friend Dean Evans, who lost his battle against the disease aged 32.

"Every penny received by Cancer Research UK is vital to help find a cure for this devastating disease so we were so grateful to Oxygen for sponsoring us," said Lucie.

"It was an emotional day - lots of laughter and lots of tears, but it was fantastic to be part of it and we look forward to doing it again next year. Hopefully Oxygen will get involved again next year - the vests looked great."

The racers helped raise hundreds of pounds for the charity.

Sam Edward's website www.samedwardsphotography.co.uk that we recently designed and built is proving a hit. Sam popped into the studio to tell us she had secured a couple of wedding jobs and impressed a new client with her online portfolio.

Wayne Rabin runs his second Marathon for Meningitis Research.

With 2,500 cases of bacterial meningitis reported in the UK every year, more than three babies, toddlers or young children will be taken ill with meningitis every day. Meningitis kills more children under the age of five than any other infectious disease in the UK.

This year Wayne Rabin will be running his second marathon – Virgin London 2011. Last time it was for fun. This time its personal. He isrunning in memory of his younger brother, Lee Rabin who died very suddenly from Meningitis.
Lee had his whole life ahead of him; a fun-loving lad who enjoyed life. Out with his mates, he collapsed in a pub and was rushed to hospital. He quickly deteriorated - Meningitis killed him within two weeks. Meningitis can kill within 4 hours; around the time it takes to run a marathon.
