1st Thursdays

1st Thursdays inaugural event huge success.

Question: How many food trucks do you need to pull off an epic evening of late-night shopping around town?

You can never have too many food trucks!

Granted, your stomach might disagree with you on that one, but we’re convinced the answer is, “the more, the merrier.”

The parade of food trucks was one of the goals at the inaugural Love Rugby Town’s 1st Thursday event on March 5. Food trucks spanning culinary options like waffles, toasties, nachos, wings and even vegan options were on hand to replenish the fuel reserves of the crowds taking advantage of the late-night shopping the Love Rugby Town committee worked so hard to make a reality.

Between 2,000 and 3,000 local residents shopped, dined and perused the town centre bringing in thousands of pounds of takings for the retailers in about 3 hours. Organisers deemed the inaugural event a huge success.

“We pulled it off, after months and months of planning and logistics,” said Malcolm Freeman, owner of Oxygen Graphics and 1st Thursdays committee member. “The event was great and we’re looking forward to several more successful 1st Thursdays, especially as the weather turns warmer.”

The event not only received the collective nod of approval from the community but also caught the eye of the House of Commons with a commendation from William Hague. The event also received accolades from Mark Pawsey, Member of Parliament for Rugby, who was on hand during the kick off event and called the inaugural 1St Thursdays evening a ‘fantastic initiative.’

Malcolm, along with the team at Oxygen, were instrumental in the success of 1st Thursdays, serving on the planning committee since late 2014, as well as providing all the marketing and advertising materials promoting the event. From posters to stickers and websites to info packs, the event had Oxygen’s stamp of brand creativity one has come to expect from the award-winning design firm.

In the first month alone, traffic to the 1st Thursdays website clocked in over 4,000 page views. The immense success of the event led more retailers to sign up for the sophomore 2nd April 1st Thursdays event. The evening kicks off promptly at 5pm and wraps up at 8pm. All three Council car parks will be open until 10pm – parking will be free from 4pm.

Be sure to add 2nd April to your calendar – the food trucks will be lined up and waiting! For more information and a list of participating retailers, visit the 1stThursdays website. http://www.loverugbytown.co.uk/
